Above: To record the vox for this track, we built a makeshift vocal booth in our hallway, using boxes and blankets.
Here’s another preview from my new collection of songs, a departure from my band’s sexy, pumping, high-energy rock ‘n’ roll.
It’s a song I wrote when we got back from Italy in September. Tracie P, Georgia P, and I were just sitting around on Sunday afternoon and I was strumming the guitar. And the song just tumbled out of me. By the second take, I already had the melody and most of the arrangement. And I captured it on the iPhone (you can hear it in the video below).
In the final track, you hear all the instruments totally raw (vox, two nylon string guitar parts, and cello). No compression whatsoever and just a little verb on the second guitar part.
The cello is played beautifully by Victoria Wolff, one of the many amazing musicians who live here in Austin. She was such a joy to work with.
Of all the songs I’ve written and recorded, this is one of my all-time favorites. Thanks for listening! (Here’s the iTunes link for the complete EP.)
